Our aim is to empower farmers to prioritise their well-being, enabling them to remain strong, healthy, and resilient, ensuring the continued success of their farms and the agricultural sector as a whole. We operate on a principle of listening to the farming community, ensuring our resources are relevant and directly address their needs and feedback.

Why?

Farmers face significant challenges, demanding physical labour, long working hours, geographical isolation, exposure to hazards, and significant financial pressures contribute to high rates of musculoskeletal disorders, mental health challenges, and long-term health conditions within the farming community. Our initiative directly addresses these concerns by partnering with experts in health, fitness, and agriculture to develop tailored resources and support systems.

“Farming is like no other job. It really is a way of life, and often a hard one too. By listening to what farmers and others have to say we hope that we can provide useful and relevant ways of supporting people to look after their own and their family's health and well-being.”

Cross System Working

First-time joint work across health (GPs/field nurses), parish/CVS, and farming bodies around farmer-defined needs.

Working Through the Community

Activities shaped and run by farm families and residents, with informal networks driving change – less “delivered to”, more “done by”.

Activating Spaces

Dormant rural assets such as showgrounds and auction marts, are now active hubs for health and connection.

Building Local Capacity

Farm champions are stepping forward, with FS4L formats designed to fit farm life (booklet, podcast, social media) and build capability.

Shifting Cultures

Physical activity reframed as part of farming life – social, intergenerational, and woven into daily routines – rather than a formal “exercise class.”

Learning in Action

Rapid feedback from shows and markets shapes timing and content, creating a “learn by walking the loop” cycle of continuous improvement.
