The Let’s Move Hyndburn team have been reaching new audiences with the aim of getting more people active in their local area.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust has been a key partner in the Let’s Move Hyndburn park events and this month marks one year since Let’s Move Hyndburn and Accrington Stanley Football Club discussed how they could work collaboratively to tackle physical inactivity with a goal to improve the health and wellbeing of Stanley supporters and Hyndburn residents.

During the initial phases of our partnership they developed a list of success factors; their challenges and goals, the result was to create a #LetsWalkToTheMatch campaign.  The campaign aims were to raise awareness of the benefits of being more active and by encouraging more people to walk to the match, to alleviate match day traffic and parking issues.

Accrington Stanley generously allowed Let’s Move Hyndburn to feature in every home match day brochure and on their digital screens.  At first the Let’s Move team didn’t have appropriate imagery and therefore created infographics.  They quickly learned that these weren’t achieving the desired impact so the team decided to capture images of authentic Stanley supporters, simply by asking them whilst they were strolling to the match.

The response of people they approached was very positive indeed, 90% of people agreed to be photographed.  This exercise only took one hour but involving real people proved to be a pivotal point in the campaigns success.

Since the football season finished for the summer, the Let’s Move Hyndburn team have reflected on what they’ve learned and would like to share their one-page summary and timeline here.
